How to Study Long and Hard and Still Fail…or How to Get the Most Out of Studying

If you are on Facebook and have Like!-ed our page, you may already be familiar with a series of brief videos that we are publicizing. Created by a Psychology Faculty member at Samfor University, these 5 (brief!) videos will help you to understand more about the learning process - what you may or may not be doing right. As the title suggests, you may study long and hard - but still Fail. Find out why....

The first two videos are:

Video 1: Beliefs That Make You Fail…Or Succeed
The first video examines common mistaken beliefs students often possess that undermine their learning. The video tries to correct those misconceptions with accurate beliefs about learning.

Video 2: What Students Should Understand About How People Learn
The second video introduces a simple but powerful theory of memory, Levels of Processing, that can help students improve their study.

Enjoy - and watch for future postings of the rest of this 5-part series!

Welcome Back, Students!

Greetings from TRiO!

And Welcome Back to campus for the 2011-2012 Academic Year! We hope that the summer was a chance for you to renew yourself (though we saw many of our students taking classes as well!) and ready to come back to school with a focus on success.

The TRiO Staff is excited to have everyone back, please stop in during the next two weeks and meet with us. Let us know how classes are, if you are having any concerns, and just update us on what you have been doing over the summer.

To get you started this semester, we want to share with you a quick video that will be the first in a series of five entitled, "How to Study Long and Hard and Still Fail…or How to Get the Most Out of Studying".

YouTube Video: Beliefs that make you Fail or Succeed...

Feel free to post your comments about the video on this Blog to share with other TRiO students.

Enjoy! And Happy 1st Day of Fall 2011 Semester!
